Woodhenge

Woodhenge

Woodhenge takes it's name from the fact that it was originally a wooden structure similar to Stonehenge, and thought to have been constructed around 2000 BC. The modern concrete posts mark the positions of the original timbers which formed a series of ovals whose long axes are aligned to the midsummer sunrise.

The site was originally surrounded by a bank and inner ditch, with the entrance to the site was through a causeway at the north east.

Wood henge forms part of the Stonehenge sacred landscape, north of Old Sarum and Salisbury, Wiltshire, England.
