Murat

At Murat in the Cantal, Auvergne, France, the huge statue of the madonna smiles down from her rocky outcrop above the medieval town with it's ancient church and black madonna / vierge noire. The original statue was stolen in 1983 and is presently replaced by a recent replica.

Further west is the black madonna at Mauriac.
